Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Murdering Father With Rock

SANTA ROSA, CA | May 07, 2026

Defendant Patrick Schieber of Santa Rosa, California, was sentenced today to 15 years to life in the state prison by the Honorable Laura Passaglia for the murder of his elderly father in 2023.

On September 9, 2023, at approximately 9:48 a.m., the defendant called 911 requesting assistance and reported that his father, David Schieber, was dead inside their residence located in the Coffey Park neighborhood of Santa Rosa. During the call, the defendant admitted that he had killed his father with a rock.

Officers with the Santa Rosa Police Department responded to the residence and detained the defendant outside the home covered in blood. When officers entered the residence and located David Schieber, he was deceased in a recliner chair in the family living room. A bloody, baseball-sized rock was located next to the chair.

SRPD detectives were able to develop a detailed forensic timeline of the murder by reviewing surveillance footage of the defendant’s mother leaving the residence shortly prior to the murder, the 911 call, and system data from the victim’s cellphone. It was determined that the defendant bludgeoned his father to death with a rock while the victim was seated and using his phone, shortly after the defendant’s mother left the home.

District Attorney Carla Rodriguez stated, “Family violence and elder abuse sometimes lead to fatal results. Mr. Schreiber earned the life sentence through his senseless act of violence against his father.”

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Robert Rasp and assisted by District Attorney Investigator Stephen Bussell. Detective Brooke Clark of the Santa Rosa Police Department headed the investigation.
