For Immediate Release
Rohnert Park man sentenced to 8 years in prison for domestic violence causing severe injury
SANTA ROSA, CA | February 20, 2026
Defendant John Steven Lombardo, forty-nine years old, of Rohnert Park, was sentenced today to serve 8 years in state prison by the Honorable Gloria F. Rhynes after pleading no contest in January of this year to felony charges of domestic violence causing great bodily injury, as well as a violation of a domestic violence criminal protective order.
On April 24, 2025, the victim in this case went to her boyfriend Lombardo’s residence at an apartment complex in Rohnert Park. During a verbal argument, Lombardo repeatedly yelled at her to leave. As the victim attempted to leave, while holding her personal belongings and her dog’s leash, Lombardo pushed her forcefully with both hands on the back of her right shoulder. The push caused the victim to lose her footing and fall to the ground.
As a result of the fall, the victim suffered a severe fracture of her right femur. She was transported by ambulance to Sutter Hospital, where she remained for approximately eight days and underwent surgery to repair her broken leg. The victim continued to experience significant pain and underwent a lengthy and difficult recovery process.
Lombardo did not call for medical assistance for the victim after he assaulted her, requiring the apartment complex staff to contact emergency services. Surveillance footage that was later reviewed by law enforcement showed the victim tumbling backwards out of Lombardo’s doorway and striking the ground.
While in custody, Lombardo sent the victim a letter, addressed to her dog, in violation of a protective order that had been issued. In the letter, Lombardo asked the victim to contact the judge and falsely describe the incident as an accident, stating that if she did not do so he was facing one to three years in prison.
The 2025 assault marked the second domestic violence offense involving the same victim. Lombardo was convicted of a misdemeanor domestic violence charge against her in 2023. Following that conviction, Lombardo was placed on formal probation, with programing specific to domestic violence offenders.
During Lombardo’s prior probation period, he committed numerous violations, including new criminal convictions for methamphetamine possession and repeated violations of restraining orders. Due to his continued criminal conduct and failure to comply with court orders, Lombardo was sentenced to serve the remainder of his probation term in jail. Lombardo’s prior grant of probation was terminated on January 28, 2024, after he served his jail sentence.
The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Matt Hobson assisted by District Attorney Investigators Robyn Fuentes. The Rohnert Park Department of Public Safety headed the investigation.
