Tractor Supply Company Pays $5.1 Million to Settle Violations of Price Accuracy Laws, Pesticide Regulations and Greenwashing Claims

Sonoma County District Attorney, Carla Rodriguez announced today that Tractor Supply West, LLC (“Tractor Supply“) has entered into a Stipulated Judgment and will pay $5,126,282.97 in civil penalties, restitution, and costs to resolve a civil consumer protection action that alleged that the company violated California’s Price Accuracy laws, Pesticide Regulations and Greenwashing laws.

The complaint filed in Sonoma County on behalf of the District Attorney’s Offices of Sonoma, San Diego, Santa Cruz, Sacramento, and San Bernardino counties alleged that Tractor Supply:

1. Unlawfully charged customers prices higher than their lowest advertised or posted price.
2. Sold pesticides without current valid licenses issued by the Department of Pesticide Regulation, failed to document the sales of pesticides as required, and sold restricted pesticides without the appropriate licensing.
   
   
3. Sold products labeled as “biodegradable” in violation of California’s Greenwashing laws.

Each of these violations also constitute violations of California’s Unfair Competition law.

District Attorney Rodriguez stated, “Businesses in California that fail to comply with all laws and regulations that have been enacted to protect consumers and the environment, cause injury to our citizens and our environment and also unfairly compete with businesses that incur the costs to comply with these laws. Our Environmental and Consumer Law Division works with District Attorneys throughout the state to ensure that businesses comply with these laws.”

Under the terms of the judgment signed by the Honorable Patrick Broderick on August 5, 2026, Tractor Supply must implement new policies and procedures to ensure compliance with each of these laws. Tractor Supply cooperated with the investigation and voluntarily ceased sales of pesticides until the proper licensing was in place after being contacted by the District Attorneys.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorneys Caroline Fowler and Jessica Washington.
