Annapolis Man Sentenced for 2018 Domestic Violence Incident & 2019 Criminal Threat Against a Deputy Sheriff

Defendant Edgar Uriel Figueroa Garcia, 35 years old of Annapolis, was sentenced today by the Honorable Bradford DeMeo to serve three years and eight months in state prison after having pled guilty in November of last year to two felony charges for assault on his then pregnant girlfriend, and threats to kill a Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff.

During a 2018 incident, Garcia repeatedly punched and slapped his then pregnant girlfriend about her head and face, prompting her to jump from his moving car and run for her life. Undeterred, he stopped his car in the middle of the road, got out, and gave chase. After catching up to the victim, he attempted to drag her back to his car until he was confronted by a couple who stopped to aid the victim. The victim suffered visible injuries across her body as a result of the assault.

In 2019, Garcia threatened to kill a deputy sheriff after the deputy had Garcia’s backhoe towed. Garcia had illegally parked the backhoe on private property, necessitating its removal.

The cases were handled by Deputy District Attorney Dustin Hughson. Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff Mark Provost headed the domestic violence investigation, and Sonoma County Deputy Sheriff Caroline Jaap headed the criminal threat investigation.
