Convicted Murderer Vernon Bragg Denied Parole

California Department of Corrections and Rehabilitation inmate Vernon Bragg, 65 years old of Guerneville, was given a three year denial of parole by the State of California Board of Parole Hearings following a hearing yesterday morning at the California Medical Facility, Vacaville.

Inmate Bragg pled guilty to second degree murder and use of a firearm in 1985 for the shooting death of victim Ray R. Bragg committed the murder In 1982 after luring the victim into a garage and beating him to the ground with a handgun. Inmate Bragg then stood over the victim and discharged a single bullet into the back of the victim’s neck, killing him. With the help of an associate, Bragg then drove the victim’s body to an abandoned house in Duncan Mills and buried the body underneath the house. The body was discovered two years later when one of Bragg’s associates provided a tip to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office.

Bragg was on parole out of Texas for aggravated robbery at the time he committed the murder. He was sentenced to 17 years-to-life following his Sonoma County conviction and to date has been incarcerated for approximately 35 years.

The parole hearing was attended by Deputy District Attorney Robert Waner and Victim Advocate Makeeba Kadri of the Sonoma County District Attorney’s office. Several surviving members of the victim’s family spoke in opposition to parole.
