Santa Rosa,CA | February 04, 2022
Defendant David Bowen Farwell, 34 years old of Guerneville, was found guilty by a Sonoma County jury yesterday of felony assault with force likely to cause great bodily injury, and resisting arrest.
District Attorney Ravitch stated, “We are thankful for the jury’s service and thankful that this defendant will be held accountable for this violent attack.”
The charges were the result of an incident that occurred on Sept. 5, 2021 in the town of Guerneville when the 66-year-old victim set up to play his wind controller, a musical instrument, on Main Street to provide some free entertainment. After the victim placed some of his equipment in front of the ice cream shop where he intended to play, he briefly returned to his vehicle. At that time Farwell obtained part of the victim’s instrument and began to waive it around while rambling incoherent words. As the victim walked back to his equipment, Farwell kicked him in the chest and threw punches to his head. The victim managed to block the blows, but the force of the punches and kick caused him to fall onto the street where he struck his head. Losing consciousness. Numerous bystanders came to his aid and called 911. A Sonoma County Sheriff’s Deputy immediately responded to the scene where Farwell screamed and failed to comply with the deputy’s commands. Several additional deputies responded and assisted in taking Farwell into custody. The defendant will be sentenced by the Honorable Brad DeMeo at a sentencing hearing set for March 21st.
The case was investigated by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department and prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Marianna Green.
