Man Sentenced To Life In Prison For Multiple Felonies Including Attempted Sexual Assault, And Attempted Murder Of Peace Officer

Defendant Sean Seeman, 27 years old of New York and Alabama, and recently transient in Santa Rosa, was sentenced Tuesday morning by the Honorable Dana Simonds to serve 29 years and 6 months-to-life in state prison after having been convicted of multiple felonies in two separate jury trials earlier this year. Following the trials Seeman was found guilty of 12 felonies including attempted sexual assault with a weapon, attempted kidnapping for purposes of sexual assault, commercial burglary, attempted murder of a peace officer, several counts of “gassing” (throwing bodily fluids while incarcerated), and obstructing law enforcement officers in the performance of their duties. 

The initial charges were the result of the defendant’s attack of a barista at a Forestville coffee shop in July 2018 during which the defendant attempted to drag the victim into the bathroom by force while holding a nail to her neck, all while threatening to kill her if she did not comply. The victim fought back and was eventually assisted by a customer, who the defendant then physically fought and threatened. The defendant was immediately arrested and booked into the county jail. While in custody, the defendant engaged in a series of violent attacks against custodial officers working within the Main Adult Detention Facility. The defendant committed multiple acts of “gassing” against officers attending to their regular duties. On July 10, 2019, the defendant lunged at a deputy who entered his cell for routine maintenance services. The defendant attempted to stab the deputy in the neck with an extremely sharp, handmade weapon. Following a struggle, the defendant was disarmed. While being escorted to the courtroom for jury trial on the sexual assault charges on September 17, 2019, the defendant attacked the handling deputy and attempted to grab his duty weapon. 

In addition to the life sentence, the defendant was ordered to register as a sex offender for the remainder of his life. 

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Laura Passaglia, assisted by District Attorney Investigators Robyn Katz and Greg Wojcik, and by Victim Witness Advocate Alex Perry.  All investigations were handled by the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department.
