Serial Rapist Sentenced to Life In State Prison

SANTA ROSA, CA | June 05, 2024

Defendant Ricky Marion Bostic, 55 years old of Sonoma County, was sentenced earlier today by the Honorable Laura Passaglia to serve 15 years to life in state prison after having previously plead “no contest” to charges of felony assault with intent to rape, and rape of an intoxicated person.

District Attorney Rodriguez stated, “This was a predatory attack on an incredibly vulnerable victim. We are hopeful this conviction and sentence finally provides some closure for the victim and her family.”

The charges resulted from a 2007 rape investigation conducted by the Santa Rosa Police Department after the victim reported being sexually assaulted after leaving Club Seven in downtown Santa Rosa. The investigation showed that the defendant had watched as people left the club, and followed the victim to her home, eventually entering and raping her. After the victim woke up in the morning, she immediately realized she had been assaulted and reported the incident to law enforcement. Although her assailant was unknown, a full forensic examination was conducted, including the collection of DNA evidence. Years passed before the DNA taken from the victim was matched to the defendant. Although Bostic moved away from Sonoma County many years ago, at the time of the assault he was employed as deputy with the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Department.

In addition to the Sonoma County conviction, Bostic has been convicted and sentenced for separate rape convictions in the state of Maryland for which he was sentenced to serve 50 years to life. To date, Sonoma County law enforcement has not discovered any additional victims that match Bostic’s DNA profile.

After the prosecutor’s comments on sentencing, the court acknowledged the trauma and pain inflicted on the victim, her family, and the community, and stated that the defendant deserved the sentence he received and more.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy District Attorney Juliette Hyde assisted by District Attorney Investigator Dave Linscomb. The Santa Rosa Police Department headed the investigation.
