Santa Rosa Man Sentenced to Life in Prison for Domestic Violence Offenses

Defendant Adrian Cervantes-Alvarez, 38-years-old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced on May 6, 2024 by the Honorable Troye Shaffer to serve 6 years plus 27 years to life in prison after having been convicted by a Sonoma County jury in February of attempting to murder the mother of his children. Santa Rosa Man Receives Life Sentence for 2022 Killing

Defendant Juan Antonio Martinez, 35 years old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced today by the Honorable Laura Passaglia to serve 20 years-to-life in state prison after pleading “no contest” in February of this year to charges of second-degree murder, and extortion by posing as a kidnapper, and admitting a sentencing enhancement for personally using a firearm.  Read full story

Judge Sentences Man to Prison for Child Molest

Defendant Robert Herrera was sentenced yesterday by the Honorable Laura Passaglia to 12 years and 8 months in prison. Herrera’s sentence was the result of his 2023 convictions following a jury trial involving charges that he molested two children. Read full story

Local Program Receives Community Awareness Project Funding for 2023 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week

The Victim Services Division of the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office has received funding from the National Association of VOCA Assistance Administrators (NAVAA) through a grant from the Office for Victims of Crime (OVC), within the Office of Justice Programs, U.S. Department of Justice, to promote community awareness of crime victims’ rights and services during the 2024 National Crime Victims’ Rights Week. Violent Third Strike Offender Denied Parole

CDCR Inmate Louis Manuel Moreno, 66 years old of Lakeport, California, was denied parole today by the California State Board of Parole Hearings following a morning hearing held at the Solano State Prison in Solano County. The Parole Board found that Moreno was unsuitable for parole as he continues to pose an unreasonable risk to public safety. Read full story

Child Molester Sentenced to Life In Prison

Brian Douglas Schmitt Sr., 78 years old of Petaluma, was sentenced today by the Honorable Robert LaForge to serve thirty years to life in state prison following a jury trial conducted in January at which Schmitt was found guilty of four felony sex offenses committed against a child. Prison Inmate Who Was Convicted Of “Third Strike” For Residential Burglary Denied Parole

Inmate Billy Ray Shanee Maldonado, of San Antonio, Texas, was denied parole today by the California State Board of Parole Hearings following a morning hearing held at the Mule Creek State Prison in Amador County. The Parole Board found that Maldonado continued to pose an unreasonable risk to public safety and denied parole for an additional three years. Maldonado chose not to attend the hearing. Repeat Felony Dui Offender Sentenced to Probation For A Second Time; Was On Felony Probation At The Time Of This Offense, Now Has Five Dui Convictions

On Monday, February 26, 2024, Sonoma County Superior Court Judge Dana Simonds overruled prosecutors’ objections and sentenced repeat felony DUI offender Juan Garnica Vigil to probation. Vigil is a five-time convicted DUI driver who was on felony probation at the time of this most recent felony DUI offense. Read full story
