Sonoma County Domestic Violence Perpetrator Denied Parole
Inmate David Busio Lopez, 52 years old, will remain incarcerated for at least another 7 years following his parole eligibility hearing on January 28, 2026. In 2007 Lopez was convicted by jury of domestic violence against his wife and the court found he had suffered several “strike” priors for beating another victim in 1994. The court sentenced Lopez to 35 years to life under the “three strikes law.” Read full story
Santa Rosa Woman Sentenced to Thirty-Six Years Prison for Child Molestation
Christina Renee Whisman, 45 years old of Santa Rosa, was sentenced Thursday January 29th by the Honorable Paige Hein to serve 36 years in state prison after pleading no contest in November of last year to three separate charges of engaging in lewd conduct with a child under the age of 14 by force, fear, or duress; one charge of providing cocaine to a minor; and one additional charge of child molestation. Shawn Naputi Sentenced to More Than Five Years for Theft Spree Across Eleven Bay Area Counties
On May 8, 2024, Shawn Naputi walked into the Friedman's Home Improvement store on Santa Rosa Avenue, filled a trash can with more than $2400 worth of Friedman's merchandise, and headed for the exit. A sharp-eyed Friedman's employee recognized Mr. Naputi and his vehicle from prior Friedman's thefts and called the police. When employees started observing Mr. Naputi inside the store and Sonoma County Sheriff deputies arrived outside, Mr. Naputi abandoned the trashcan full of merchandise and walked out of the store. Sheriff Deputies spoke to the Friedman's employees and connected Mr. Naputi to seven (7) other Friedman's thefts, dating back to January 2024. Read full story
Fatal Sonoma DUI Crash Leads to Maximum Sentence
At the conclusion of a hearing Tuesday afternoon in front of the Honorable Mark Urioste, the court sentenced Defendant Abdulhadi Awad to the maximum term of 12 years and 8 months in state prison for causing a deadly DUI crash that occurred on January 26, 2020 in the city of Sonoma. The crash resulted in the death of Jamie Narkunski and caused life-threatening injuries to his wife, Natalie Weiss. Judge Urioste told Awad that he had seen “no remorse” from Awad during the pendency of the case. Read full story
Husband and Wife Plead to Charges for Operating an Illegal Fish Business Out of Their Home
Sonoma County District Attorney Carla Rodriguez announced today that defendants Richard and Shalley Tran of Rohnert Park pleaded to two counts of illegally selling and exchanging fish for profit or personal gain. Read full story

Rafael Onofre-Remigio, 31 years old of Sebastopol, was sentenced yesterday by the Honorable Kenneth J. Gnoss to serve 3 years in state prison following a conviction for driving under the influence of alcohol. This offense was Onofre-Remigio’s 4th DUI conviction in the past 10 years – his 2nd felony and his 5th overall. Read full story

Zoe Rosenberg Sentenced to 90 Days Jail After Jury Trial Conviction and Unsubstantiated Claims of Animal Cruelty at Petaluma Poultry
Defendant Zoe Rosenberg, 23-years-old of Berkeley, was sentenced today by the Honorable Kenneth Gnoss after a Sonoma County jury convicted her in November of felony conspiracy and three misdemeanors arising from a coordinated June 13, 2023 incursion at Petaluma Poultry. The jury found that she conspired with other Direct Action Everywhere (DxE) members to unlawfully enter the USDA regulated facility, remove live chickens, steal business records, and interfere with commercial operations. She was sentenced to 90 days of county jail, 60 of which can be served on jail alternatives such as electronic home confinement, as a condition of felony probation. Read full story
DxE Co-founder Ordered to Pay $191,704 In Restitution as a Result of Felony Conviction for Conspiracy to Commit Trespass and Trespassing at Sonoma County Farms
Wayne Hsiung, a 42-year-old California state bar licensed attorney from San Francisco, was ordered on November 21st of this year by the Honorable Judge Laura Passaglia to pay Sonoma County’s Sunrise Farms $87,195, and Weber Family Farms $104,509 in restitution after having been convicted by a Sonoma County jury of felony charges of conspiracy to trespass and trespass in 2023. Office of Traffic Safety Awards $768,000 Grant to the Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office for Specialized DUI Prosecution Team
Sonoma County, Calif. – Sonoma County District Attorney’s Office announced today that it has received a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support a specialized prosecution team that handles alcohol- and drug-impaired driving cases.
